Stoney Creek Girls Hockey Association

The 1973-74 season saw the birth of the Saltfleet Women's Hockey Association at Saltfleet Arena, with the Hayes Bears, named after an Earl Paddock line of trucks and the P-Wee's Pizza Queens, sponsored by Gary Donald. Neil Whitfield was our first President, but he had to step down mid-season and Ron Parent took over as President.

The SWHA became involved with the Winona Peach Festival in 1973 and we continue to participate in the Winona Peach Festival today. The festival and the Sweetheart Tournament are the Associations major fundraiser. In our second season, we obtained written permission to name our teams Sabres.

The Saltfleet Women's Hockey Association received their Letters Patent on November 1st, 1978. The name was changed to the Stoney Creek Girls Hockey Association with the amalgamation of Saltfleet and Stoney Creek.
